Why Train at Independent Performance Fitness LLC?

Independent Performance Fitness LLC opened in February 2017.  Why me?  Why IPF?  After relocating to Brazoria County in late summer of 2014,  since all three of our children decided to leave Indiana and relocate to Texas for jobs and careers, I joined a big box gym…and watched the young trainers give the mature clients – that had just joined the gym – their one complimentary training session!  Wow, I thought they were trying to kill them!  Sadly those trainers were not really there “to help” their clients.

Down through the years the Baby Boomer generation have changed this country for the better.  As we age, we need to do it better than our parents and grand parents did it – aging that is!    Our generation has NEVER followed the status quo!

I am a certified Functional Aging Specialist through the FAI (Functional Aging Institute) that is specifically trained to help people achieve the best possible health and quality of life through innovative and evidence-based functional fitness programs that are safe, effective, enjoyable and purposeful.  I also have  BS and MA degrees from Ball State University in Exercise Science.

FAI Core Principles

We believe:

  • Aging is mandatory…but growing old is optional
  • Improving functional fitness is critical to living a long, healthy and enjoyable life
  • Traditional resistance training does NOT maximize function
  • Exercise is a powerful stimulus with numerous benefits
  • It is NEVER too late to begin a fitness program and reap its benefits
  • If you move better you will feel better.  If you feel better you will move more.  If you move more you will look better.
  • Fitness is one of the best investments of time, money and effort that a mature adult can make and it will yield huge benefits
  • All exercise programs are NOT created equal!

I believe that our body is our temple, given to us by God, for us to use to help ourselves and others achieve great things.

I want to help you to live your Carpe Diem lifestyle.  I will hold you accountable to both me and yourself.  I have three favorite words or phrases that I have lived by for many years:  1)  perseverance – I’ve always said that I was just too dumb to quit; 2) creativity – I like to think outside the box and take the road less traveled…do my own thing and not follow the crowd; and 3) hard work / work hard – the two dirtiest words in the American English language the past few decades.
